Le Mauricia Mauritius

Mauritius has always been on my list of places to visit, so last year, we took the plunge and combined a stay in Dubai with a week on this lush tropical paradise island. It was an easy choice when deciding where to stay, having given advice to many clients on staying on the North West coast during the summer due to the better climate, we opted for a Beachcomber Hotel, Le Mauricia in Grand Baie. Sitting beach front in a beautiful bay, the hotel exudes a laid back vibe with an undercurrent of efficiency. We were welcomed with a tropical drink and cold towels and invited to take a seat whilst our host checked us in, a nice touch I thought. In no time, we were unpacking in our room, whilst our children were eager to go and explore.  The family rooms were situated in the 'family village', a separate block to the main hotel and consisted of a duplex style layout with two separate sleeping areas perfect if you have older children, Simply furnished, the décor was influenced by a fusion of Africa and Indian themes. All rooms except the family rooms have a view of the ocean, it would have been nice but we choose space over view. Both swimming pools faced the beach, there were sun loungers a plenty and more on the beach which belonged to the hotel. As part of our package, water sports were included, which my family enjoyed immensely, the 12 year old loved trying water skiing, by the end of the week, the water sports guy was his new best friend! We booked All Inclusive, which was a good choice as drinks were on the expensive side, food was excellent with a theme buffet every evening with fresh cooking stations, if you enjoy seafood then you will  be in for a treat! If you get bored of buffet meals then you can also dine in Le Nautic A la carte restaurant, which we enjoyed on two occasions.  I also liked the inter dine option with the sister hotel Le Cannonier, situated at the other end of the bay. We took a taxi and spent an afternoon here, enjoying lunch and the hotel amenities. The location of the hotel is perfect, being in the centre of the resort. We travelled in August, which is low season, hotel rates are at their lowest, so represent excellent value, however, we found it very quiet in the resort with some shops and restaurants closed. On the plus side, there were bargains to be had in cashmere and leather goods and spices due to the lack of footfall in the shops...! In summary, Le Mauricia would suit  variety of clientele looking for a good 4* beach based holiday. If you would like to know more about Le Mauricier or other hotels I visited during my stay in Mauritius: Le Cannonier; Le Victoria and Troux Aux Biches please contact me and I will be happy to advise you.
