Ikos Olivia...another level....

This year, we were lucky enough to have the Designer Travel conference in the sunnier climes of Halkidiki. . As I had not been to an all inclusive hotel before, I went with a little trepidation.... What a pleasant surprise! Much thought has gone in to the design of the rooms especially the bungalows, which are two storey and spread in small blocks throughout the grounds. Families are particularly well catered for in the two bedroom suites, one with a king bed and twins in the other, plus two bathrooms. Furnishings are clean and fresh with pale muted decor. Outside, the patio or balconies are large and have sun loungers (with lovely thick pads!) and or table and chairs. The hotel offers a Deluxe Section, these bungalows have certain benefits such as exclusive use of one of the pools with upgraded pool and beach service; premium bathroom toiletries and premium drinks in the minibar which is replenished daily and more... this may appeal to some looking for more attentive service. Although the hotel was full during my stay, it never felt crowded inside or outside. Around the pools areas, there always seemed to be plenty of sun loungers too which is a bonus on holiday and takes away any stress first thing in the morning as the hotel do not allow towels to be placed on sunbeds (phewww,,,at last!!) For those who like the beach, the hotel is ideal as it is located on a lovely stretch, probably not the best, but good enough to build sandcastles and nice all the same, the water was shallow enough for little ones too. The one area that has to be right for an all inclusive is food and drink - both were excellent. The 4 A La Carte Restaurants require advance booking, the hotel do need to improve on the booking process as every morning, there was a large queue in reception of people trying to reserve a table. However, the two meals we had in Provence, the French A La Carte and Anya the Asian were exceptional and so far removed from your typical all inclusive fayre. Breakfast in Flavours buffet restaurant was also very good. For those looking for fine wines to accompany your meal, there is a Sommelier service in all A La Carte restaurants who will assist guests in choosing wine to go with their meal. Drinks were fabulous at every level, from breakfast juice to wines to the scrumptious cocktails mixed by the fab staff at Indigo bar. Entertainment is planned for the Summer, however, we did not experience this during our stay. We did see the kids club though which is well equipped and run by Worldwide Kids Company which is really reassuring as they are excellent, A tip...you definitely need to book before you go as they have strict ratios and do get full! There were little teething problems during our stay, you can forgive this though as the hotel will get them ironed out. I suppose the real test would be whether you would go back....Well I have already looked for next year!
