šŸŒŠā˜€ļø Why Menorca Should Be Your Next Mediterranean Escape

Looking for a laid-back island escape that combines crystal-clear beaches, ancient history, and unbeatable sunsets—without the crowds of Ibiza or Mallorca? āœˆļø Say hello to Menorca — Spain’s Balearic gem and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Whether you’re chasing secluded coves, charming villages, or unforgettable seafood paella by the sea, this island brings the vibes and then some.

PERFECT for families too - Menorca is our family favourite and here’s why:

Short flight time āœ”ļø

Daytime flights from regional UK airports āœ”ļø

Small island = short transferāœ”ļø

Great climate - not too sizzly šŸ”„ for kids āœ”ļø

Here’s what you can’t miss šŸ‘‡

āø»

šŸ–ļø 1. Cala Macarella & Cala Macarelleta

Instagrammable. Turquoise. Tranquil.

These two iconic coves are straight out of a postcard. Hike the scenic coastal trail from Cala Galdana, or arrive by boat for that exclusive feel. Bring snorkels, sunscreen, and swimmers - it’s simply beautiful!

āø»

šŸ›ļø 2. Ciutadella de Menorca

The original island capital city is packed with cobblestone charm, gothic churches, and cosy tapas bars.

Wander the quaint alleys, explore the Cathedral of Menorca, and stay for sunset at the harbour with a glass of local wine. šŸ·āœØ

The markets on Friday and Saturday are a great shout! But it’s worth bearing in mind that Siesta is a serious business in Menorca, and many shops close during the afternoon, reopening around 4/5 pm when the streets come back to life!

āø»

šŸŒ„ 3. Monte Toro

The highest point on the island, Monte Toro, offers panoramic views of Menorca and beyond. A peaceful monastery sits at the summit, perfect for a quiet moment above the clouds. šŸ•Šļø

A beautiful view - but worth bearing in mind it’s not the most kid-friendly trip if you have nippers in tow.

🌊 Fornells: Menorca’s Serene Harbour Town

On Menorca’s northern coast, Fornells is a tranquil village with a palm-lined harbour full of traditional fishing boats. Fornells is the main base on the island for sail-based water activities, and boat, kayak and paddle board hire is readily available. There is no beach in Fornells, so package holiday type properties just aren’t there, giving it a more independent, authentic vibe. You’ll find gorgeous little streets and shops, and the best ice cream šŸ¦ on the island at Ricardo Riera Ice Cream parlour (don’t miss it!).

There’s a great little play park for tots and a gorgeous swimming platform/steps into the water and pergola where locals gather in the shade and take a dip in the clear waters - a truly unique swim spot, so be sure to pack your swimmers!

āø»

🄘 5. Mahón (Maó)

The island’s capital is home to one of the largest natural harbours in the world. Explore its market, walk the waterfront, and indulge in fresh seafood or Mahón cheese—a local speciality worth bringing home. šŸ§€šŸ¦ž. Many boat trips run from the harbour, providing 1-hour tours, and there is a land train šŸš‚ which is popular with the smaller family members and saves the feet! There are glass lifts up and down from harbour level to the main town area if you have pushchairs, etc.

āø»

šŸŒ… 6. Cova d’en Xoroi

Possibly the coolest bar you’ll EVER visit—carved into a cliff. Come at golden hour for sunset cocktails with jaw-dropping views of the Med. DJs spin here by night, but early evenings are pure magic. šŸŽ¶šŸ¹. Top tip - Book online in advance!! They don’t do food, but you’ll need a ticket during busy periods. They also have family-friendly afternoons with shows for kids, so parents can enjoy a cocktail šŸø - look on their website for details!

āø»

šŸ›¶ 7. Kayak & Paddleboard in Es Grau

This quiet fishing village is the gateway to the Albufera des Grau Natural Park. Kayak through the serene reserve and paddle your way into calm, shallow coves. A must for nature lovers! šŸŒæšŸ›¶

āø»

šŸ’” Pro Tips:

• Book online for a trip to Cova D’en Xoroi

• Rent a car or scooter to explore the island’s hidden gems.

• Book boat tours early—sunset sails sell out fast! ⛵
