Hemingways Watamu Kenya

Hemingways Watamu Kenya

Hemingways Watamu a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World. This gem of a hotel has to be seen to be believed. It's stunning location on the beautiful white sands of Watamu 90 miles north of Mombasa is one of the best I have ever experienced in all my travels (well apart from the Maldives). It is a small low rise hotel consisting of 76 rooms ranging from superior which have a twin or double bed and shower. Deluxe which have a bath and shower and are directly in front of the beach. Junior Suites with a private terrace, living room and a huge bathroom. Executive Suites which have a super king size bed with 2 bathrooms and a small kitchen. The resort has 2 beautiful swimming pools and 2 restaurants. During the months from October to March dinner is served on the terrace with a lovely cooling breeze to accompany your meal. The food is one of the things Hemingways is renowned for it is superb. The breakfast buffet is absolutely gorgeous with so much choice. The resort is famous for big game fishing, they have fishing competitions with competitors coming in from all over the world. This makes the resort very quiet in the daytime as the fishermen are out from early morning until about 4 pm when the come back with their catch, which is usually served for dinner(you can't get much fresher than that). Hemingways is set very close to the Watamu National marine Park so if you like to snorkel this is the place for you. You can also get your Padi certificate here as well. There is a world class golf course nearby if you are a keen golfer. The spa is very good with treatments available from facials/body scrubs to manicures and pedicures at very reasonable prices. Hemingways is a lovely way to spend a week or so after your safari. It is well worth the journey by road from Mombasa or a flight into Malindi which is about 12 miles away. If you do get there by road I would suggest you have a private transfer as not all the small bus transfers have air con. If you are looking for an all singing all dancing all inclusive then Hemingways is not the place for you. If you want good food, excellent service in a charming beach resort, with breath taking view out to the Indian Ocean then this is definitely the place for you.
