Stoupa Family Summer Escape

For our family summer 2024 holiday we settled on Stoupa in the Greek Peloponnese.

Flying into to Kalamata airport, with a flight time of around 3.5 hours from Manchester and a shared transfer by coach of approximately one hour.

Our holiday this year consisted of our family of four for eleven nights and our lovely friends joined us for 7 nights, between us there were four adults and six children/teenagers between eleven and eighteen.

We stayed at the most wonderful 4* family owned Koloktronis Hotel and Spa, built in a traditional stone style typical of this area of Greece, our one bedroom apartment was clean, modern and spacious with sunsets to die for!

Stoupa is a stunning resort nestled in amongst the pine clad hills along the Greek Peloponnese coastline.

A firm favourite with Greek, English and other European families over the years, with many returning time and time again year after year.

Despite this, for me Stoupa retains a certain “Greek Charm” with Instagrammable images to capture around almost every corner.

There are two fabulous beaches to choose from Stoupa main beach which is in the resort centre, where you can pay a small fee of 10 Euro’s for two sun beds and an umbrella or other shade or many cafes and beachfront restaurants (who own the beds) provide these for free if your purchase drinks or lunch throughout the day from their establishments. The downside to Stoupa beach is that it gets very busy in peak season.

Kalogria beach in comparison is to the right of one of the main entry routes into Stoupa has a wonderful broad sandy beach, Sumner’s here are more expensive and range between 15 Euro’s for two beds and shade, through to 50 Euro’s with plush padded beds! The water at Kalogria beach shelves in gently and is shallow a fair way out so it’s great for families with young chosen. Paddle boards and pedalo’s are available to hire at reasonable prices.

Nightlife in Stoupa centres around traditional Greek Tavernas, bars and restaurants. During our eleven night stay we ate at over ten different restaurants, returning to our favourites more than once. For evening views and a chilled out vibe and stunning photos across the water, I can highly recommend Enigma not far past Kalogria beach and 360 Cafe Bar, built over several floors with amazing views over Stoupa main beach, and a true photo spot opportunity.

From Stoupa you can take the coastal path to Aghios Nikaloas a 3. kilometre walk each way, which takes around one hour in each direction, (take plenty of water and be careful of temperatures if going in high season) once a small fishing village, you can still watch the fresh catch being brought in daily and even buy some fresh fish. I loved Aghios Nikaloas for its laid-back feel, traditional cafes and restaurants and a few boutique shops thrown in.

This was our first visit to the Greek Peloponnese and it definitely won’t be our last, I can’t wait to sample the other coastal resorts that this Greek gem has to offer.
