Tenerife always provides fun in the sun | Designer Travel

Tenerife, the highest of all the Atlantic Islands is regarded as the most beautiful of the Canary Islands. Highlights include the stony desert of Caldera de las Canadas, great expanses of pine forests and fertile valleys in which beautiful flora flourishes.

Tenerife is the largest and most important of the Canary Islands off the west coast of Africa and is an Island of great contrast, from bustling tourist resorts to quiet villages sun drenched beaches and snow capped mountains. The Islands landscape is dominated by Mt Teide which is 3718 metres above sea level more than 3 times the height of Mt Snowdon in Wales.

Tenerife is a popular holiday resort all year round due to it’s climate. More recently Tenerife has developed as one of the leading destination_blogs for holiday makers from western Europe. Almost half of the Islands population lives in and around San Cristobel de la Laguna and Santa Cruz de Tenerife the past and present capital cities.

When exploring the capital city of Tenerife, Santa Cruz. A great place to start a tour of the city is Plaza de Espana near to the harbour as it is the hub of city life. Most places of interest are within walking distance and you can obtain local maps from the nearby tourist information office. There is a large monument in the centre of the square which commemorates the dead of the Spanish Civil War Monumento de los Caidos.

Beyond Santa Cruz there are lots of enjoyable things to do more than 2 million people a year visit the Parque Nacional del Teide which is dominated by El Teide the dormant volcano. Assuming that the winds are not too strong a cable car takes visitors to it’s summit although the final 560 ft is an upward climb on foot.

For those who want to get in touch with nature in a different way there is Loro Parque where you can see animals such as penguins, sea lions, parrots, gorillas, tropical fish and much more.

Should you be seeking a little bit more adventure Siam Waterpark provides a fantastic day out for all the family from lazy rivers to adrenaline fuelled rides there is something for everyone.
