Discover the Best of Peru with Latin Routes: A 5-Day Adventure from Lima to Machu Picchu

Whether you’re a history buff, a nature lover, or just looking for your next travel destination, Peru has something for everyone. Here’s a peek into the brief highlights of our journey!

Day 1: Arrival in Lima - Our Peruvian Adventure Begins! ✈️

We flew with LATAM Airlines from London Heathrow via Madrid. I was worried about the long Economy Class flight, but it was surprisingly comfortable! The dimmable windows, a fantastic entertainment system, and stellar service made the trip very enjoyable.

Upon arriving in Lima, we were greeted with lovely warm smiles and headed to the 5-star Iberostar Selection Miraflores. This stunning cliffside hotel offers breathtaking sea views and a modern, relaxed vibe. We kicked off our exploration with a visit to El Parque del Amor (The Park of Love)—a beautiful green space with incredible coastal vistas and a perfect spot for a romantic stroll.

Day 2: Exploring the Historic Heart of Lima

Our day started at Plaza de Armas, Lima’s historic square surrounded by colonial architecture. We admired the grand fountain and watched the changing of the guard at the Palacio de Gobierno.

In the evening, we enjoyed a lively welcome party at the Iberostar’s rooftop bar. With a DJ, delicious canapés, and Pisco Punch (a must-try Peruvian cocktail!), it was the perfect way to begin our trip!

Day 3: A Journey to Cusco and Cultural Insights

We started the day with an engaging seminar from Latin Routes. led by Lima local Alex. Later, we checked into the luxurious Country Club Lima Hotel, a historic icon of the city.

Early the next morning, we flew to Cusco and visited Hotel B, a chic art gallery hotel. After a rooftop brunch, we flew on to Machu Picchu!

Day 4: Discovering the Wonders of Machu Picchu 🏔️

Our Machu Picchu adventure began with a 4 am start. We took a coach to Ollantaytambo and then boarded the PeruRail Vistadome Observatory Train for stunning views of mountains and valleys.

For those looking to fully immerse themselves in Peru’s beauty, trekking holidays to Machu Picchu are perfect! You can choose from a range of routes and distances, like the classic Inca Trail, the SalkantayTrek (a great alternative to the Inca Trail), or the scenic **Mountain Lodges of Peru.  These treks let you explore snow-capped mountains, sapphire lakes, terraced fields, and lush forests at your own pace.

At Machu Picchu, we explored the ancient city and learned about its fascinating history. We then enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, set in a serene cloud forest.

Day 5: Cultural Experience at Centro Cultural Parwa

On our final day, we visited the Centro Cultural Parwa in Chinchero. This vibrant centre supports local women through traditional weaving and crafts. We fed baby alpacas, bought beautiful souvenirs, and got to know the local culture.
