When is the best time to go to New York ?

When people ask me "When is the best time to go to New York ? " , i usually reply  "Any time its  such a fantastic city , it has something to offer in all seasons" ! If you are wanting a bargain, then I suggest Jan/ Feb as its low season for prices and you may "bag " a bargain in the January sales ! Go in July or August and you could be sunbathing in Central Park or going further afield to the beaches just above New York ! I have to say my favourite time is Thanksgiving, which is the last weekend in November. Thanksgiving also signals the start of the Christmas decoration build up with the light switch  on at the Rockefeller centre , where they also have the ice rink and its so beautifully decorated. In the states Thanksgiving is a really big deal, and in New York they have the famous Macys Thanksgiving parade. It is a massive spectacle. The streets are closed to traffic and a procession of giant inflatable balloon characters and floats, filled with famous people travel along Broadway and it ends up at Macys Herald square. People come from all over America to witness this. The year we went it was -6 wind chill, but it didn't put any one off, people line the route from 6.30 am ! I saw police lifting children onto the roofs of their vehicles so they could get a better view ! It just has a great atmosphere and is well worth witnessing if you are there ! Whilst there we also went outdoor skating in Central Park, it was fabulous. It is a lovely setting , Central park is very pretty, it is surrounded by the iconic New York buildings.
