The enchanting city of Rome

Four girls hit Rome , Me and three of my best friends did the girls weekend to Rome , we had the most fun and fabulous time. We stayed in a lovely typical Italian city hotel with the french balcony overlooking the street below, just off the square of Saint Maria Maggiore ,where the Church of the same name is. This was a good location, classed as central, not too close to the Termini station, its a little salubrious round there! but equally we weren't paying the higher hotel prices if you stay right on the designer avenues ! A tip ... you do see really cheap 4* hotels advertised on the outskirts of Rome, I wouldn't recommend these as its a bus into town the surrounding area is not pretty! Central Rome is so steeped in history, it feels like every corner you turn there is an iconic sight, like The Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish steps to name but a few ! Even just walking round the streets is fun its all  so old  and the buildings have such character, and you will stumble across some cosy cafes for some needed refreshment. You can buy the hop on/ hop off bus ticket to do all the major sights, I would recommend this as it is a vast city, but if you like walking do as we did, we caught the bus to the furthest sight and then spent a day wandering back to out hotel( forget fashion , the comfiest shoes are needed for all the cobbles in Rome !!) A must is The Vatican , even if you aren't religious you cannot failed to moved by the amazing scale of it , we did the Sistine Chapel where you will see Michelangelo’s fresco ‘The Creation of Adam. I have to admit I am not always in to museums and history etc  but found it all totally fascinating ! People often think that Rome will be expensive, my tip would be search out the restaurants off the main avenues, you will always pay over the odds if you have tea and cake overlooking The Spanish steps!, but take a walk down the alleyways and you will get a 2 course meal and wine for the same price!
