The beautiful island of Crete
The beautiful island of Crete
Recently I had an incredible opportunity to go on a trip to the beautiful island of Crete- WOW, what a place. The trip was hosted by Grecotel and Easyjet Holidays and it was incredible.
After a short flight from Manchester to Chania, we were quickly through passport control and on our way. The scenery on the way to our resort was beautiful and showed the rich landscape of such a spectacular island.
The history and traditions of Crete are easy to see as we wound our way through local towns and alongside the coastline showing stunning beaches and gorgeous views. I would highly recommend a private transfer from either of the two airports in Crete, just so you can sit back and relax to soak in the breathtaking surroundings. It has a beautiful calmness about it, so serene. Crete has so much to offer for everyone. You will find beaches all around the island that are not just exceptionally clean, but also able to cater for everyone, from couples wanting a quiet sunbathe and children wanting fun in the water.
Wherever you stay in Crete, you are guaranteed a very warm and traditional Greek welcome. The local lemonade and iced tea are usually offered, alongside the traditional drink of Raki, not for the fainthearted! The food is out of this world. Fish populates most menus, and as it is so fresh, it’s a shame not to go for it. Sea bream, tuna, salmon- you name it! The Greeks spend a lot of time enjoying their food, so don’t be surprised if eating a meal takes much longer than usual, just sit back and enjoy the serenity. Fresh produce is something that Crete prides itself on, and so it should. Everything from tomatoes, olive oil, salad leaves, lemons- a wide variety of fruit and vegetables. A lot of the hotels grow the produce on-site, you don’t get much more local than that!
Crete has a lot to offer couples, families, and solo travellers, there’s something for everyone of any age. It’s rare to find a location that would suit anyone and everyone. You will be sure to find your perfect holiday here, whether you’re looking for a lazy beach trip, a romantic getaway, wild waterpark fun, crazy nightlife escapades, or sightseeing, you won’t be disappointed.
During this trip, I had the pleasure of staying in the Grecotel Creta Palace and the Grecotel Amirandes Resorts. We also visited some of the other Grecotel resorts, Caramel Boutique Hotel, Lux Me White Palace and the Club Marine Palace which were all amazing and had unique offerings to different clientele.
