California and its many faces Chapter 2 Old Sacramento

California and its many faces Chapter 2 Old Sacramento

Old Sacramento dates back to 1848 when the discovery of Gold encouraged prospectors and entrepreneurs in search of adventure. Old Sacramento was the last stop on the pony express route and housed the original supreme court chambers. Today it is still filled with character and somehow makes you feel like you have taken a step back in time. There is a great deal to explore whether you choose to take an Old Sacramento underground tour which gives visitors a unique insight into the dramatic undertaking which took place in the 1860's and 1870's to raise the streets and protect the city from devastating floods. Alternatively you could decide to visit the California State Railroad Museum which has more than 20 restored locamotives and railroad cars along with thousands of smaller artefacts. Why not have lunch on the beautifully restored Delta King Riverboat on the Sacramento River. The Delta King has a great amount of history but the latest chapter in it's life involved being dredged from the river and fully restored to incorporate a great restaurant bar and grill along with hotel staterooms and banqueting facilities. They have a great menu with lots of locally sourced produce and extremely attentive staff enabling you to soak up the ambiance and enjoy.
