Queen Mary 2 - Cunards Flag Ship

Queen Mary 2 - Cunards Flag Ship

Queen Mary 2 is Cunard's Flag Ship not too mention the most magnificent liner ever built! January 2014 marks 10 years since she set sail for the first time. At 151,000 tons she is the largest of the "3 Queens" the other two being Queen Elizabeth and Victoria both are 90,000 tons. She is both grand and spacious. Her guest capacity is 2620 passengers with a crew of 1253. Don't worry that this sounds like a lot of people on board you will always be able to find a quiet spot to relax. CABINS: Inside/ocean view and balcony cabins are all well appointed with bathrobe and slippers plus complimentary Gilchrist & Soames bath products. Fridge and tv in all cabins. Guests occupying this class of cabin will dine in the beautiful art deco style Britannia restaurant. Club grade luxury balcony cabins AA will dine in the Britannia Club Restaurant where they will have a table reserved for their sole use from 6.30 pm to 9.00 pm. Princess Suite's are beautiful, ranging from 381 sq ft upwards. The suite's have a walk in closet plus a full size bathroom ( a real luxury on a cruise ship) Guests enjoy a bottle of sparkling wine and fresh fruit in their stateroom on embarkation. They dine in the Princess Grill where their table is solely for their use from 6.30 to 9.00 pm. Queens Suite's are the ultimate in luxury ranging in size from 506 to 2249 sq ft. A bottle of Champagne will be waiting in your suite plus a personal butler will take care of all your needs. Guests will dine in the award winning Queens Grill with their own table as before. They will be met by the Maitre d' then escorted to their table adorned with a beautiful crisp damask tablecloth, gleaming silver and crystal glassware.  if you prefer you can choose from the grill menu and dine in your suite. DRESS CODE: Dress up for the evenings is the order of the day! The dress code is applicable from 6 pm. Don't expect to see shorts and t shirts around the ship in the evening - she is a very smart ship! Daytime is very casual and easy going. ACTIVITIES: There is a host of activities on board to keep you occupied or you can visit the largest library at sea and immerse yourself in one of the thousands of books on offer. The state of the art gym will help to keep your waistline under control as well!! Canyon Ranch Spa is superb probably the best spa I have experienced on board a cruise liner, well worth a visit (or two). If you love dancing QM2 is the ship for you, she has a large dance floor complete with live big band with a vocalist. This all takes place in the Queens Room. Foxtrot anyone? The night club is adjacent to the Queens Room and is open until the early hours. Of course she also has a theatre plus numerous other venues for you to enjoy. QM2 has the only Planetarium  at sea where specially adapted shows explain exactly what you see in the night sky. You will need to book this as it is very popular, especially on sea days and the Transatlantic Crossing. I spent 2 weeks on board from Hong Kong to Dubai (a section of the world cruise) and loved every minute of my time on her. Every port we visited drew crowds of people who came to see her - it was quite an occasion especially in this day and age when it takes a lot to WOW people - she certainly does that. To finish I would like to answer a question I have been asked on numerous occasions - "Is it stuffy on board" ? the answer is a resounding NO. Yes, there are a couple of bars and restaurants reserved for the Grill guests but apart from that you can go anywhere on board and to be quite honest she has plenty of room for everyone! She is very elegant and stylish with lovely crew and staff (our Captain was very funny)! We were made to feel very welcome indeed, even though I did forget to pack my tiara!!
