The city is split by a very deep water inlet known as Dubai Creek (or Khor Dubai); surrounded in the south by flat deserts including a great expanse of sand dunes, while the rugged Hajjar Mountains rise to the East. Dubai is known for its unbelievable architecture and ultra luxury, well equipped and stylish hotels including the famous Burj Arab. Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, is the world’s tallest building and there have been huge land developments like the World and Palm man-made islands.
Getting to and Around Dubai – Take a Metro ride
This shopping and sunbathing haven is only around 7 hours plus from various UK airports with the award winning Emirates Airlines. The region has a dry heat and the city has more than adequate infrastructure with efficient air conditioning. Local driving is not recommended as the roads are extremely busy and congested, and metered taxis are cheap. The city’s public buses are air conditioned and frequent with extensive coverage. However the new metro is an alternative way of getting around; it is reported to be the cleanest and safest in the world.
Shopping and over 30 other Attractions
Thanks to low customs duties, Dubai is an up market shopper’s paradise; gold, watches, designer labels, sports gear, electronics and cars are offered at incredibly low prices. Large air conditioned shopping centres more than satisfy consumer demand. The Dubai Mall, the biggest mall in the world, has over a thousand shops, an ice rink, and an aquarium and is part of the downtown Burj Dubai Project. The Dubai shopping experience includes a number of traditional souks; Arabian, Indian and Asian wares where haggling is compulsory and expected. There is also a fake souk at the sumptuous Madinat Jumeirah with 75 little shops and stalls. The Walk, a waterfront promenade situated at the heart of Jumeriah Beach Residences, you will find a great choice of shops, restaurants and cafes as well as a mixture of Western and Arabic entertainment. Many art works by 30 local artists are now being incorporated or displayed in this area.
As well as shopping there are over 30 attractions and things to do in this vibrant city – I can email you further information about these and also help you select the best accommodation to fit your budget and needs – there is a vast selection of beach or town options.
