Pousada de Tavira, Portugal

The town of Tavira is an unspoilt gem on the Algarve coast. Situated between Faro and the Spanish border, it hides the most charming town with cobbled streets lined with quirky restaurants and bars, stunning historical buildings to explore and pretty little squares where the locals meet. The seven arch bridge, over the Gilão river just adds to Tavira's charm and is the backdrop to the local market. The closest beach on the breathtaking Tavira Island can easily be reached by boat from the town. Pousada Convento Tavira sits high above the town up a fairytale cobbled alley, overlooking the town. This classic historical hotel in the restored 16th-century former Convent of Nossa Senhora de Graça. Beautifully restored with contemporary features amongst the ruins of the original convent. The original chapel adjoins the hotel and definitely worth a peep inside to appreciate it's grand scale. The original cloisters central to the hotel just add to the history and provide the most peaceful retreat after a day exploring Tavira. Each individual room is designed with simple luxury in keeping with the classic style of a Pousada. The restaurant and bar provide exquisite service serving the best local dishes. During the day, the stunning pool set amongst the ancient ruins and gardens is the perfect sanctuary. Having visited a number of times, I cannot find fault with this hotel - the service, the history, the luxurious decor all add the feeling of tranquility you feel staying here. I loved it so much I got married here!!   If you would like to know more about this fabulous hotel or you have any other holiday enquiries, please contact me: Rebecca Germano 01942 814652 or 07967 633653 rebeccagermano@designertravel.co.uk
