Melbourne and Victoria

Melbourne is an engrossing city in the state of Victoria, offering plenty of sightseeing opportunities

From hot air balloon flights to cultural shows, Victoria and Melbourne are fantastic destinations for the discerning traveller. Melbourne, with its parks and tree lined boulevards, certainly has the feel of the laid-back Aussie lifestyle although there’s plenty of live entertainment too, ranging from sports events to jazz clubs.

Melbourne has quaint trams that take you around the city. You can visit areas like St Kilda with its arty vibe and cafe culture. Of course, it’s also home to the famed Australian Open so it’s a big hit with tennis fans each January and cricket fans will appreciate the organised tours that are available of Melbourne Cricket Ground; Australia’s most popular sporting venue.

Victoria has a dramatic coastline and the Great Ocean Road is a wonderful way to take in the beauty of this area. The rugged splendour of the famous 12 Apostles, a collection of magnificent rock stacks which rise majestically from the ocean, are a wonderful sight to behold – especially at sunrise and sunset when they change colour with the rising sun.

The Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria are a natural sanctuary for native wildlife as they are home to an amazing array of diverse plant collections including rainforest flora, herbs, perennials, camellias, cacti and more. Take a leisurely stroll through the gardens, enjoy a guided walk or go punting on the tranquil Ornamental Lake – it’s a lovely way to spend the day. In the summer months, there’s an outdoor cinema plus exhibitions and theatre performances.

Victoria is also home to over 800 wineries with the Yarra Valley having produced some award-winning chardonnays, shiraz and cabernet sauvignon. There are plenty of top-class wineries that you can visit plus enjoy some tastings along the way.
