More About Istria Riviera

The Istria peninsula is situated in the north western part of Croatia and borders Slovenia with a maritime border with Italy. This beautiful region displays a strong Italian influence and is filled with pretty hilltop towns and verdant vegetation. Porec is the most popular holiday resort in Istria with two main bays south of the town. Stroll through the streets and you‘ll appreciate the Venetian-style architecture, old townhouses and pretty piazzas. The highlight of sightseeing here is the marvellous Euphrasian Basilica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its amazing Byzantine mosaics. Rovinj also has some stunning Venetian architecture to see. This is a popular destination for couples and families alike as it has sand and shingle beaches, shallow waters, a good choice of watersports, wonderful views over the Adriatic Ocean and a good choice of restaurants serving everything from fresh local cuisine to international favourites. Pula, the capital of Istria, lies on its southern tip and boasts lovely beaches, fantastic eateries and impressive Roman ruins. The spectacular Roman amphitheatre is the sixth largest in the world. It still functions today as an outdoor concert hall with various music, theatre and other entertainment events taking place during the summer. History buffs will also appreciate the Roman Forum in the centre of town and Hercules Gate which dates from the mid-first century. The Brijuni Group of islands, near Pula, are an ideal choice for a day trip. These fourteen small islands are separated from the west coast of the Istrian peninsula by the Fazana Strait. There's plenty to explore on foot or you can rent a bike, scooter or golf cart if you prefer. Attractions include a National Park, museum, botanical gardens and churches.
