More About Jamaica

Jamaica is a beautiful Caribbean country that offers a unique experience to travellers. This island country is renowned for its beautiful palm-fringed white sand beaches, beach bars, hidden waterfalls, banana plantations, and towering mountains that offer breathtaking views. One of the most significant aspects of Jamaica is its laid-back and relaxed vibe, which is integral to its charm. With temperatures hovering around 30 degrees Celsius for most of the year, Jamaica can be visited at any time of the year.

Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, and Negril are the most popular resorts in Jamaica, offering beachfront hotels, reggae bars, and bric-a-brac huts. Negril is particularly famous for having one of the best beaches in Jamaica, the Seven Mile Beach, where one can sunbathe and enjoy the warm waters. The town also offers several 24-hour all-inclusive packages for visitors to choose from, such as Riu Negril and Riu Palace Tropical Bay.

For those looking for a more secluded and quieter scene, Lucea and Runaway Bay are excellent options. These places offer untouched beaches and a slower pace of life. Lucea features three beautiful white sand beaches, a castle, a courthouse, and a Saturday market for visitors to explore. Runaway Bay, on the other hand, features pearly beaches and many nods to the King of Reggae, Bob Marley. Trelawny is another serene location that is known for its Georgian buildings and is a protected area of biodiversity.

Jamaica is also rich in history, with age-old mansions and 18th-century plantations that tell its story. Montego Bay‘s Rose Hall is a prime example of such a place. It is a grand mansion that is believed to be haunted by the ghost of a white witch. Kingston, the capital of Jamaica, is also a great place to explore, with its streets full of colonial buildings and museums that showcase the country‘s rich past.

Ocho Rios

Holidays in Ocho Rios are a true taste of Jamaica. The main attraction is Dunn River Falls, but there are also tropical beaches, craft markets, and reggae nightspots to enjoy.

Experience the Natural Beauty
Although Ocho Rios may not be a household name, the photographs of its star attraction, Dunn River Falls, certainly are. This waterfall has been featured in countless TV adverts and holiday brochures for Jamaica and is a must-visit destination. However, there is much more to see here. From trendy shopping malls to breathtaking beaches and white-water rafting, this purpose-built resort has something for everyone.

Enjoy the Beaches
Ocho Rios boasts many of the Caribbean's most beautiful beaches. Turtle Beach is a picturesque cove with gently shelving white sands, coconut palms, and upmarket hotels. A cruise ship pier is located at one end, while a smaller jetty for watersports is situated at the other. Mahogany Beach, which has a small reef for snorkeling, is a short five-minute taxi ride away. Reggae Beach, the most secluded of the lot, is a bit further out.

Explore the Town
The heart of Ocho Rios is Main Street, a bustling thoroughfare with restaurants, fast-food chains, shopping centers, and craft markets on both sides. Island Village is a charming open-air mall styled after a rural Jamaican village and is the go-to destination for tourists arriving on cruise ships. It is also home to a fantastic reggae museum. At night, Main Street is the center of Ocho Rios' lively nightlife.

Dunn River Falls
This stunning 600-foot waterfall is one of Jamaica's national treasures. It flows through a dense emerald forest and cascades onto an ice-white beach. The only safe way to the top is by forming a human chain, so be prepared to get wet on your way up.

Montego Bay

Montego Bay offers the perfect introduction to Jamaica, with its tropical white sands, pristine coral reefs, and vibrant Caribbean culture. Mobay, as it is known, is Jamaica's second city, and it is a bustling hub of activity day and night. Whether you're seeking bright blue skies, ice-white beaches, or miles of colorful coral reefs, you will find it all in Montego Bay.

There is a ribbon of beaches in the area, with a different one for every day of the week. One of the most famous beaches is Doctor's Cave Beach, a 300-meter stretch of gently shelving sand that offers watersports, coral reefs, and a 100-year-old bathing club. Harmony Beach Park is another popular spot, with tree-shaded lawns and plenty of picnic space. Sunset Beach is also a great place to sunbathe, and it is close to the airport, which makes it a favorite among plane-spotters.

Gloucester Avenue, nicknamed the Hip Strip by locals, is a 3-kilometer stretch of shops, chain restaurants, and theme bars that runs parallel to the oceanfront. During the day, street vendors and tanned holidaymakers flock to the area, while at night, it transforms into a lively party destination. For a change of scene, Downtown is worth exploring, with its pattie shops, CD vendors, and historic landmarks such as Gully Market and the cobblestone Sam Sharpe Square.

Negril

Negril is a town in Jamaica that offers visitors a chance to enjoy the best of the country's attractions. With tropical white sands, coral reefs and beach bars that play reggae music, you'll feel like you're in paradise.

Negril has a relaxed atmosphere and is located on the westernmost tip of Jamaica. It's a place where famous musicians like Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, and the Rolling Stones came to escape from their busy lives. The town is famous for its Seven Mile Beach, which is lined with luxury hotels to the north and smaller family-run hotels to the south.

The town comes to life during the summer when Dream Weekend is celebrated. This event happens at the end of July to coincide with Jamaica's emancipation and independence. Hotels host carnival-like parties fuelled by reggae and dancehall music, which often spill out onto the beach, making the atmosphere more lively.

Negril Beach, also known as Seven Mile Beach, consistently ranks as one of the world's top beaches. It's a long stretch of shimmering white sand and crystal-clear sea, surrounded by palm trees and clapboard shacks where you can enjoy a cold Red Stripe beer. If you're looking for adventure, there are plenty of water sports available, and glass-bottom boats can take you to the coral reef just off the shore.

For those seeking a more laid-back atmosphere, West End Road is a coastal route that runs along the cliffs south of Seven Mile Beach. On this road, you can find boutique hotels, grill shacks, and cliff-top bars like Rick's Cafe, where daredevils can jump off the rocks into the Caribbean Sea.

If you're looking for modern luxuries, Norman Manley Boulevard is the place to go. It runs parallel to Seven Mile Beach and is home to shopping plazas, chic restaurants, bars, and lively music venues where top reggae artists perform. Despite these modern amenities, the street still has local character, thanks to the craft stalls and jerk chicken grills that line the pavement.
