Long Beach – Belle Mare, East Coast Mauritius
Luxurious new resort set on the longest and widest stretch of beach in Mauritius
A Long way from Ordinary…this wonderful property took 5 years to plan and 2 years to build, the present General Manager Nicolas B. De Chalan being responsible for the planning and building from day one. Many areas of the hotel have been cleverly protected so that any East coast breeze that sometimes occurs in off season is not felt by guests in those areas.
Rooms & Suites
There are a total of 255 rooms arranged in three crescents either side of the main courtyard area in this magnificent open property. The hotel occupies a huge area of land and all the accommodations are well placed, all with sea view. Natural woods and strong volcanic rock abound in the modern futuristic exterior design which compliments the chic contemporary designs of the interiors. Everything had a strong well built feel to it. The rooms are all very similar and have wide open terraces with equally wide sliding glass doors achieving what the designers intended: ‘bringing together open-air living and indoor living’.
Categories of accommodation:
The Elevated Sea View Standard Rooms (60 sq m), if they can be called standard, can accommodate two adults plus an extra bed for an adult or child. 84 are interconnecting out of the 116 standard rooms.
The ground level beachfront Superior Rooms (64 sq m) can accommodate two adults plus a further adult or a further two children, 56 are interconnecting out of the 108 superior rooms.
There is very little difference between the two room types and in fact some clients may prefer the elevated position of the standard rooms. Ask for further details.
The rooms have magnificent king-sized beds and stylish furniture in soft tones of green, coral red, white and ash grey, creating a feeling of well being and subdued luxury. They have all the usual facilities you would expect including Flat Screen TVs, iPod stations, digital clocks, safes, and include tea and coffee making facilities. There is a vast array of hanging and storage space and the ‘roomy’ stylish bathrooms have separate shower, toilet and bath.
The 29 Family Units (86.4 sq m) have one room for two adults with a king sized bed plus a separate room which can accommodate up to three children consisting of two sofa beds with a separate shower and toilet for the children.
There are 2 ground floor Beachfront Suites (132sq m) situated right at the ocean facing a beautiful natural creek. They can accommodate up to three sharing.

Restaurants & Bars
The choice of restaurants at this property is excellent with surroundings and decor to match. While I was there we were treated to a different course in each restaurant hosted by Stephane the Resident Manager. Four of the restaurants are on the beautiful hotel’s wide open Piazza and continue the theme of ‘bringing together open-air living and indoor living’ with outdoor and indoor seating. The fifth restaurant is on the beach side. All the kitchens are also open and can be viewed by guests – this shows how organised, confident and capable both management and staff are with the service and standards offered to guests.
Le Marche, described as a cooking dining area, includes seating in one huge kitchen; full English and continental breakfast are served here plus an interactive buffet station dinner or table d’hôte dinner is offered. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Sapori the Italian venue produces high quality fresh foods – Enjoy lunch or dinner here.
Hasu- stylish Japanese choice has seating around the kitchen area which includes central sushi area, and grill yakitori bar as well as private and semi private a la carte dining area. Open for dinner only and supplements may apply depending on your package. I recommend the Angus beef here, shipped in from New Zealand!
Chopsticks – a modern casual Chinese restaurant – we were able to observe noodles being made by hand. Open from 1030 until midnight – very popular with guests at all times of day.
Tides as you can imagine offers a vast selection of fresh fish. The ‘feet in the sand’ club adjoining serves top gastro pub style snacks washed down with original cocktail concoctions. Open for lunch and dinner.
Some guests choose to dine around, having a course here and there. However it is always better to make a reservation although guests are always welcome to turn up on the spur of the moment. There is great flexibility with the use of the restaurants so that everything runs smoothly on the day depending on how many guests are staying at any given time and the makeup of guests. At peak times for example three restaurants can be opened up for breakfast if required, rather than have any overcrowding.
.Days of operation of each restaurant may vary so please ask for further details.
Room service – A 24 hour in-room service dining experience caters for breakfasts, lunch, romantic dinners, and special celebrations.
Beach Service – waiter service is available for light lunch and drinks as well as a beach cart service providing refreshments and snacks along the beach for guests to enjoy under the privacy of their thatched parasols.
Shores is an elevated cocktail and lounge bar situated in a prominent position between the beautiful piazza and the large green leading to and offering beautiful views of the beach and ocean. As well as serving wonderful tropical cocktails and other drinks, you can enjoy afternoon tea here with a fine selection of teas, cakes and homemade pancakes.
Tides Pool and Beach Bar offer poolside refreshments and local cocktails. A full menu of lunchtime snacks is served from the adjacent Tides restaurant.
Half Board, All Inclusive and Dining in Sun Resort Hotels in Mauritius.
Most of the Mauritian Sun Resorts offer a choice of half board and an all inclusive option. The all inclusive option normally includes most drinks and the opportunity of dining in all restaurants including the a la carte ones (with only some of the selections carrying a supplement) whereas the half board offer is more restrictive and you may only receive a credit to dine a la carte. Each property could be slightly different and of course all arrangements are reviewed from time to time so it is wise to look at the options in detail and see what exactly they include before booking. It is also wise to check (if all inclusive) if there is a time deadline in the evening when this facility ceases for alcoholic drinks. The Le Touessrok does not offer an all inclusive option.
Facilities and things to do.
The large main heated pool is well protected from any breeze and there is more than ample space to relax on the surrounding decks. There is a freshwater pool for those who prefer that. And for the very energetic swimmers there is a lap pool at the separate sports centre.
The Sports Centre situated at a separate inland location a few minutes from the reception building has a fully equipped gym and fitness centre. Weekly yoga, stretching and aerobics are offered both indoors and out.
Land Sports – set close to the Sports Centre there are three floodlit tennis courts (racket & balls for a fee) plus a multipurpose court. Other activities offered include aerobics, steps stretching and yoga classes , badminton, frisbee, jogging, five a side football pitch, volleyball, table tennis, archery, pitch and put, beach tennis, tennis volley and the only climbing wall on the island. There is also the ‘lap pool’ mentioned previously located alongside the Sports Centre.

The comprehensive Children and Teens facilities listed below are also located in the Sports Centre Building as described above.
The Angels Kids Club is open 12 hours a day, free for 4 to 11 yrs, babysitters at a charge available for younger children. The spacious club area is in a separate and safe part of the resort and forms part of the Sports Club, run by professional trained staff. It has its own swimming pool and kids can enjoy tennis clinics as well as environmental excursions and visits to places of interest.
Dinner time provides a special event every evening for kids with a selection of menus, buffets and barbecues. Lunch is arranged at nominal charge.
The Waves Teen Club free for 12 to 17 yrs is also located at the Sports Club in a separate spacious area offering a special programme of sports and recreation as well as adventure outings and excursions. Activities include evening beach barbeques around a camp fire and pizza nights at the Italian Restaurant. Facilities include a juice bar, with electronic games, baby foot, pool games and table tennis.
The Sea Spa building is like no other I have seen, tucked away over the hill a few minutes from hotel reception in a beautiful quiet secluded spot overlooking a pond. There again the design of the spa reflects the ‘bringing together of open-air living and indoor living’. The treatment rooms have large wide sliding doors that can be opened if requested or curtains can be drawn for privacy. As elsewhere, there is a feeling of space and no clutter is left lying around during treatments; large attractive cupboards have been included in the design to store all items so after any treatment clients can completely relax without distractions in an uncluttered environment. There is also a stylish beauty parlour which includes hair salon, manicure and pedicure, relaxation area and shopping. The outdoor Spa Pavilion is ideal for massages overlooking the pond.
