Fairmont Chateau Frontenac Hotel – Quebec City, Canada

Fairmont Chateau Frontenac Hotel – Quebec City, Canada

Standing high on a bluff overlooking the St. Lawrence River, Fairmont Le Château Frontenac is the heart of Old Quebec.

A grand hotel built originally in 1893, its design being based on a French Chateau built to gigantic proportions. It dominates the skyline of Quebec City with its green copper roof.

Rooms and Suites

Each of the hotel’s 618 elegant guest rooms and suites are beautifully furnished each with its unique distinctive feel and architecture.

Clarification of room types from lowest to top are:-

The Fairmont Rooms, with no particular view, but still have all necessary amenities.

Deluxe Old Quebec Rooms overlook old Quebec or surrounding parks and ‘finished in an elegant decor’.

Deluxe River View Rooms, more traditional furnishings, but having a guaranteed view of the St Lawrence.

Studio Rooms are elegantly furnished, spacious and can take up to five guests with two double beds and double sofa bed – ideal for families and view of the river or old town.

Fairmont Gold for the discerning Business or Leisure Guest, ‘the boutique hotel at the Chateau’

Fairmont Gold guests at the Chateau have access to separate check in and luxury lounge on the 14th floor where they can also have fresh fruit and complimentary beverages throughout the day. Alcoholic drinks you sign for. Complimentary breakfast (mainly continental but with meats and cheeses and one hot dish) are served here. You enjoy superb views of the St Lawrence from the lounge. Hordeuvres are served with drinks for a couple of hours in an evening. A dedicated concierge service is available as well. Fairmont Gold Rooms are situated in high central tower on 14th and 15th Floor: Deluxe Old Quebec – Deluxe River View – Junior Suites – Regular Suites.

Dining

The more casual all day dining restaurant Le Cafe de la Terrasse offers both an A la carte Menu and lavish buffets – unfortunately we were unable to sample this venue when staying there as it was closed for renovation.

And for something very special the lavish Le Champlain is an AAA/CAA 4 diamond dining room overlooks the St. Lawrence River – the food and surroundings looked beautiful buy you would probably only want to visit this restaurant once during your stay.

The Saint-Laurent Bar and Lounge with good views of the St Lawrence River, ideal for a pre or after dinner drink.

As you can see there is not an overabundance of choice of eating and dining at the hotel but it is not really a problem as there is a selection of other restaurants and cafes close by.

Facilities and things to do.

The hotel has a first class Health Club on the 6th floor, including a gym, pool, steam room and outdoor sun terrace. The hotel also now offers a range of high end services and products by the Payot Institute in a trendy environment! – ask for more details.

The hotel has been substantially upgraded and refurbished over recent years by Fairmont Hotels and is within easy walking distance of all the wonderful sites that old Quebec has to offer.
