Greek weather tends to be fairly uniform with the country enjoying warm – hot summers and mild winters. Summers are characterized by sunshine and very little rainfall. Some regions benefit from the Meltemi, a summer wind which blows across the islands of the Aegean and often produces perfect wind conditions for sailing and wind surfing
Santorini is well known for having some of the best beaches in Greece. Near the ancient site of Akrotiri is Red Beach which is famous for its’ black and red volcanic pebbles. Kamari Beach is in a stunning setting, dominated by Meso Vouno Rock and the Profitis Ilias Mountains which overlook it.
How about trying something a bit different…what about taking a wine tour? The island has an excellent reputation in wine production which dates back to Roman times. There are certainly plenty of varieties of white, rose and red wines to sample at the many wineries.
Sailing around the island is a fantastic way to appreciate the beauty of Santorini. There are many sailing companies to choose from, but probably the easiest way is to take a day excursion on a luxury catamaran. The views from the sea are breath taking with whitewashed villages perched high on the hills and mountains.
