Barrier Reef and Whitsundays

Lush rainforests, tropical beaches, colourful marine life

Cairns is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and is a beautiful city with a traditional seaside feel. Here you will find a lively promenade lined with cafes and restaurants or why not venture out of the city on a scenic train journey or visit the oldest, surviving rainforest, the Daintree.

However if it’s tropical islands with amazing marine life that you are interested in then you must make a visit to the sparkling coral waters of the Great Barrier Reef, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Stay on one of the islands or try island hopping. We’d be happy to put any combination of itinerary together for you

Leisure & Activities

Flight Over Heart Reef
What a spectacular way to appreciate the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef than by air. You can take a scenic flight by sea plane over Heart Reef or fly over Whitehaven Bay on Whitsunday Island.

Diving and Snorkelling
Another way to see the reef is from under the waves! There are no less than 5000 dive spots along the coastline depending on your experience. Two of the most popular sites are Cairns Reefs and The Ribbon Reefs. Cairns Reefs are teeming with wildlife, including thousands of fish, turtles and humpback whales. Its excellent for first time divers and families with children.

Cairns is an excellent place to base yourself if you want to explore the northern half of Queensland and is the closest mainland access to the Great Barrier Reef. The town offers a fantastic range of accommodation from budget hostels to luxury 5 star hotels. There are also fabulous restaurants and plenty of shopping opportunities.
