One of my favourite cruise itineraries is through the Panama Canal; this wonderful man made channel with its many locks joining the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Unless you have experienced this trip it is hard to imagine how on earth these large ships manage to get through the series of...
ULTRA LUXURY CRUISING with Silversea
Silversea’s award-wining fleet offer uncrowded, sophisticated luxury to all corners of the world.
Silversea Ships are elegant, spacious and luxurious, offering six star service and a welcoming atmosphere. Most of the ocean view suites have a private teak veranda. Most wines and drinks are included in the cost and the company operates a ‘no tipping’ policy. Open seating dining operates throughout the ship and there is a 24-hour room service.
Sophisticated Fleet with spacious accommodation
Silversea now have six ships offering sophisticated and spacious accommodation and public spaces. Silver Cloud and Silver Wind at 16,800 tons carry 296 guests with 210 crew, while Silver Shadow and Silver Whisper (pictured) at 28,258 tons carry 388 guests with 287 crew. A new addition, Prince Albert II, is now a unique luxurious expedition ship. The latest addition to the fleet is the Silver Spirit at 36,000 tons which can carry 540 guests with 376 crew. Most suites have balcony, and the public areas are in Art Deco style.
Apart from the luxurious main Restaurant for evening dining with no reservation required, there is La Terraza (the more casual option during the day) which is transformed into an elegant a la carte Italian Restaurant in an evening offering both inside and outside seating (when appropriate); by reservation for dinner. There is a select small speciality venue, the only wine restaurant by Relais and Chateaux at sea, called Le Champagne on Shadow, Whisper and Spirit and Saletta on Cloud and Wind; per guest registration fee applies if selected. Two new restaurants unique to Silver Spirit have been introduced; Seishin, an Asian fusion venue, and Stars Supper Club which has a very relaxed atmosphere offering cocktails, dinner at a leisurely pace with live music and dancing lasting well into the night.
Unique ‘Hot Rock Grill’
If you enjoy dining outdoors Silversea are introducing the ‘Hot Rock Grill’ concept to its fleet. First introduced on the Silver Spirit at the Pool Grill area; you can grill your own meat or seafood on volcanic stones that are scrupulously hot. The concept is proving very popular.
Silver Cloud went under a major refurbishment in November 2012 and new facilities include an expanded pool bar and grill area, more seating, and the chance to cook meat on volcanic rocks at the table.
New Flagship – Silver Muse
The line’s 596 guest new Silver Muse is due to be delivered in spring 2017. As well as the main dining venue eight alternative dining experiences will be on offer: La Dame (menu created by Relais & Chateaux), Kabuki (Japanese), Indochine (Pan Asian), Silver Note (Jazz Club with tapas style dishes), Atlantide (seafood), La Terrazza & Regina Margherita (both Italian) & the unique Hot Rock Grill described above. Entry level verandah suites are large, with many more Silver Suites than other Silversea vessels plus a number of two and four bedroomed suites for groups travelling together.
