Two of USA’s National Parks

USA’s 58 National Parks provide the visitor with an opportunity to experience a diverse range of spectacular nature and stunning landscapes. From these two examples one is well known and the other much less so:

Yosemite National Park, California.

One of the better known and popular National Parks, Yosemite is just around 4 hours drive east from San Francisco. It’s heaven for travellers who love the outdoors.  Many visit just to admire the scenery like the soaring granite cliffs such as El Capitan and Half Dome, the giant waterfalls, glaciers, meadows and forests of sequoia trees. 95% of its 1,100 square miles (the size of Dorset in the UK) is designated a wilderness area with no roads or cars. Abseiling is one of the many activities available; it is well known for hikers and mountain bikers. If you visit mid to late February you get to see the spectacle of the ‘fire falls’ when the setting sun turns the water of Horsetail Falls burning orange. In winter clients can ski at Badger Pass.

A popular Fly Drive Itinerary is 3 nights San Francisco – 3 nights Yosemite – 3 nights Santa Monica – 5 nights San Diego

Yellowstone National Park set in 3 states: Wyoming, Montana and Idaho.

The World’s first national park, Yellowstone, is for those who love wildlife; home to grizzly bears, wolves, lynx and bison. The park has more than 300 geysers, towering mountains and an active volcano.  3,500 square miles in size (size of North Yorkshire in the UK) 80% of the park is forested mainly with pine. The main attraction is the Old Faithful geyser which erupts every 91 minutes spouting 7,000gallons of water 150ft into the air. There are around 9 hotels in the park with summer being the busiest time.
