Santorini

Santorini is one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea. It was devastated by a volcanic eruption in the 16th century BC, forever shaping its rugged landscape. The whitewashed, houses of its 2 largest towns, Fira and Oia, cling to cliffs above an underwater caldera (crater). They overlook the Aegean sea, small islands to the west.

The island has a lot to offer people of all ages wanting a short break, honeymoon or even a wedding. From catching the sunsets from one of Fira & Oia‘s cliff top tavernas to relaxing on the black sands of the east coast of Kamari and Perissa.

The best time to travel to Santorini is in the summer months from May to October. Beware in high season Fira has cruise ship visitors most days making these cobbled streets very busy.

When I visited Santorini this year I stayed in a beautiful boutique hotel a short walk from Fira‘s capital. The Orama Hotel & Spa is rated 5* and has panoramic views over the Aegean Sea 3 pools, Spa/Gym and a Mediterranean restaurant, you have the option of BB or HB.

The hotel is around 6km from the airport and a 12 minute drive to the east coast beaches of Kamari.
